# Email API evaluation checklist for developers

A repeatable integration checklist for evaluating email APIs: request contracts, error handling, retries, signed events, and release verification.

Disclosure: PulsePigeon publishes this guide and is one of the products named. Developer experience is measurable, so verify every claim against the current product.

Time a clean integration, deliberately trigger validation and authentication failures, simulate a timeout, verify a webhook signature, and trace one message from acceptance to a terminal delivery event.

Check whether an SDK is actually installable from a public registry, which versions and runtimes it supports, and whether its methods match the live HTTP API. Source code or a generated package is not evidence of a public release.

For a PulsePigeon proof, start with the [REST request example](/email-api) and [developer documentation](/docs/developer). Persist the logical event ID before sending, repeat an identical request with its Idempotency-Key, and confirm the accepted response's id against subsequent delivery events. Use the [error reference](/docs/errors) to classify failures rather than assuming every failed request can be retried.

Compare Resend, Mailgun, SendGrid, Amazon SES, and PulsePigeon with the same acceptance, error, retry, event, and clean-install tests. Recheck current vendor documentation before committing engineering time.
